BYU graduate Erica Birk-Jarvis, William Jessup redshirt junior Bailey Cossentine and Cal State Los Angeles redshirt junior Valexsia Droughn are all mothers and collegiate All-Americans who discuss with DyeStat editor Erik Boal about the challenges of parenting young children, along with completing their academic requirements and maintaining fitness during the Coronavirus pandemic. All three women share emotional journeys after learning about their respective pregnancies and how they returned to the sport to achieve even more success while raising their kids. Droughn has an 8-year-old daughter Aniyah and a 5-year-old son Jaidyn, Cossentine has a 2-year-old son Matheson and Birk-Jarvis has a 2-year-old son Jack. In addition to returning from the birth of her second child to win the California Community College Athletic Association state 100-meter title for Ventura College in 2018, Droughn has also earned NCAA Division 2 All-America indoor and outdoor honors for Cal State L.A. Following the birth of her son, Cossentine returned to capture the NAIA national title in the marathon last year, in addition to earning All-America honors in cross country in the fall for William Jessup. Birk-Jarvis is a seven-time Division 1 All-American for BYU, returning from the birth of her son to earn recognition in four consecutive seasons of competition, highlighted by helping the Cougars place second as a team at the NCAA cross country championships in November.
